Today’s Gospel

One Sabbath Jesus had gone to eat a meal in the house of a leading Pharisee, and he was carefully watched. In front of him was a man suffering from dropsy; so Jesus asked the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?’ But no one answered. Jesus then took the man, healed him, and sent him away. And he said to them, “If your lamb or your ox falls into a well on a Sabbath day, who among you doesn’t hurry to pull it out?” and they could not answer.

Today’s Reflection:

Sabbath is not just a day of worship; it is also a day of sacrifice. By bringing to the fore His body as the new bread of sacrifice, Jesus fulfilled the old Sabbath by his passion on the cross and the promise of eternal rest in God as he was laid on the tomb. As Catholics, our Sabbath day is Sunday because it is the day that the Lord Jesus rose from the dead and established the new creation. He reconciled humanity with God. As St. Paul says, “We have been crucified with Christ. We no longer live but Christ lives in us (Gal 2: 20 ).” May we do everything in our life around that most blessed identity as beloved sons and daughters of God. / Vulnerasti, 2023
