Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Mt 7: 21. 24-27
December 7, 2023 | Thursday
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord! Lord!‘ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my heavenly Father.
“Therefore, anyone who hears these words of mine, and acts according to them, is like a wise man, who built his house on the rock. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house. But it did not collapse, because it was built on rock. But anyone who hears these words of mine, and does not act accordingly, is like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain poured, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house; it collapsed, and what a terrible collapse that was!”
Today’s Reflection:
We all know the importance of a deep and firm foundation in building houses and other infrastructures, especially skyscrapers. The foundation gives a building its stability in withstanding earthquakes and typhoons. A good foundation means a sturdy building. The same is true with our Christian discipleship. Our life’s foundation must be none other than the word of God. It bestows on us the direction we must take and the program of life we must follow so that when life’s challenges and trials come, we will not collapse under its pressure because our lives are solidly built on the rock of God’s word. If we don’t have a strong foundation like the Word of God, there’s no way we can handle life’s difficulties much more the challenges of being a
Christian in the world today.
Today is the memorial of Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, and Doctor of the Church. Aside from the tears and prayers of Saint Monica, we owe to the preaching of Ambrose the conversion of Augustine. May this great Saint continue to inspire us with his teachings and words of wisdom as we make our Advent journey. Saint Ambrose, pray for us / Vulnerasti, 2023
