Today’s Gospel

The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was to come. He answered, “The kingdom of God is not like something you can observe, and say of it, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘See, there it is!’ for the kingdom of God is within you.” And Jesus said to his disciples, “The time is at hand, when you will long to see one of the glorious days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Then people will tell you, ‘Look there! Look here!’ Do not go with them, do not follow them. As lightning flashes from one end of the sky to the other, so will it be with the Son of Man; but first he must suffer many things, and be rejected by this generation.

Today’s Reflection:

What is the Kingdom of God? Even today many people still ask questions about it. The Lord has clarified it in the gospel that it is not something that we can identify as being “there” or “here”. It is not a particular place. Rather, it is within us. It is the message of the Lord, which is about goodness, love, holiness, grace, truth, justice and peace. When we live out these values we experience how it is to be in the Kingdom of God. It is living with God.

However, this does not happen easily. There is opposition both from within and without. Personally, we struggle to grow in the values of the kingdom; and this happens every day. From the outside, there are people who would oppose and discriminate us for trying to live for God. Let us then seek the grace of God to sustain us. /Vulnerasti, 2022
