Today’s Gospel

After that, Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi. He asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They said, “For some of them, you are John the Baptist; for others Elijah, or Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

Jesus asked them, “But you, who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “It is well for you, Simon Barjona, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven.

And now I say to you: You are Peter, and on this Rock, I will build my Church; and never will the powers of death overcome it.

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven.”

Today’s Reflection:

Realistically, there is no such thing as an all-knowing, impeccable, or perfect leader. In this imperfect world, and in our human condition, there is no such thing as a human leader without any flaws. But this reality does not hinder us from giving tribute or honor to those, who despite their limitations and situations, were still able to create great impacts, contributions, and sacrifices for their organizations.

Today, the Church also gives honor and tribute to Saints Peter and Paul for the efforts and sacrifices they exerted in leading Christians during the era of the infant Church. Both Scriptures and Tradition provide us with honest accounts that convey the limitations of these saints. But it is from the manner they surpassed and grew from their imperfections that the early Church of both saints and sinners, learned how to rise from challenges and weaknesses.  /Vulnerasti, 2023
