Today’s Gospel

On that occasion, Jesus said, “Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I praise you; because you have hid- den these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to simple people. Yes, Father, this was your gracious will. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father; and no one knows the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is easy; and my burden is light.”

Today’s Reflection:

God’s favor on Israel over other nations during the Old Testament times carries with it both an incentive and a responsibility. For many generations, Israel enjoyed the protection and guidance that Yahweh bestowed on it. However, there were also generations who despise God’s presence, commandments, and restrictions, and they paid for its consequences. But this is what it means to be in a relationship with God. Being with God is to be in a relationship with the Person of God, and not just about complying with a transactional agreement with an abstract entity. Jesus’s and the Father’s intimate relationship with each other is opened to all of us, and we are invited to be part of it. However, we must never forget what it means to be part of the network of relationships that deeply involves God. /Vulnerasti, 2023
