Today’s Gospel

Yet all those whom the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away. For I have come from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of the One who sent me.

And the will of him who sent me is that I lose nothing of what he has given me, but instead that I raise it up on the last day. This is the will of the Father, that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall live eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

Today’s Reflection:

Out of fear people across cultures devised alternative but equivalent names for death just to evade its sense and meaning. It is as if death is capable of wreaking havoc once its name is mentioned. Lest it comes untimely to our doorstep. We do not dare to stare death directly in its eyes. Sometimes, because of our great focus on fear, we fail to live life to the fullest. Our celebration today reminds us of the faithful souls who departed. Everything here on earth is permanent and we are called back to our creator at the end of our journey in life. Let us imitate the saints. They did not fear death but looked at it as a transition to everlasting life with God. The saints, others canonized and some unknown to us yet fully known before the Lord, respond faithfully and lovingly to their vocation. Like them may we love God and our neighbors and live in the abundance of life through communion with our Creator. / Vulnerasti, 2023
