Today’s Gospel

After hearing this, many of Jesus’ followers said, “This language is very hard! Who can accept it?” Jesus was aware that his disciples were murmuring about this, and so he said to them, “Does this offend you? Then how will you react when you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, not the flesh. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. But among you there are some who do not believe.” From the beginning, Jesus knew who would betray him. So he added, “As I have told you, no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father.” After this many disciples withdrew and no longer followed him. Jesus asked the Twelve, “Will you also go away?” Peter answered him, “Lord, to who shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We now believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Today’s Reflection:

As Filipinos, we are fond of taking food with us whenever we travel. No matter how long the trip is, as long as there is food, the journey becomes worthwhile. In our Gospel, Jesus continues to preach to people that He is the bread that gives life. With His teaching, many were scandalized and no longer followed Him, even His disciples. When asked by Jesus if the apostles will also go away, Peter asked, “Lord, to whom shall we go?” As Christians, Christ is our only way. We do not do things our way, but we do things in Christ’s way. Also, when we journey in His way, we are sure that we will always be nourished because His words are words of eternal life. As we continue to travel in our respective journeys in life, let us not forget that the most satiating companion is Jesus Himself because with Him and through Him, the journey will always be worthwhile. /Vulnerasti, 2022
