Today’s Gospel

Who among you would say to your servant, coming in from the fields after plowing or tending sheep, ‘Go ahead and have your dinner’? No, you tell him, ‘Prepare my dinner. Put on your apron, and wait on me while I eat and drink. You can eat and drink afterward.’ Do you thank this servant for doing what you told him to do? I don’t think so. And therefore, when you have done all that you have been told to do, you should say, ‘We are no more than servants; we have only done our duty.’

Today’s Reflection:

We all have a place in the plan of God. We have our respective roles and missions to fulfill. Whatever that may be; whether as parents and married people or as single-blessed persons or as religious or priests; we are all called to a life of service. We are called to serve God and His people. This is what the gospel reading today is teaching us; we are all servants of God.

However, to follow the Lord and serve Him truly would not be possible if we do not have a faith that never gives up. That is the example that Jesus has shown to us. To serve is the very mission of God to His people. Remember the words of the Lord when He said: “I have come not to be served but to serve.” Recall how Jesus, the Son of God, “emptied himself, took the form of a slave, born in the likeness of men; humbled himself and obediently accepted death for His people to be saved”. This tells us that our God lovingly serves His people. And so, we have to humbly do the same to one another. /Vulnerasti, 2022
