Today’s Gospel

Be ready, dressed for service, and keep your lamps blit, like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding. As soon as he comes and knocks, they will open the door to him. Happy are those servants whom the master finds wide awake when he comes. Truly, I tell you, he will put on an apron, and have them sit at table, and he will wait on them. Happy are those servants, if he finds them awake when he comes at midnight or daybreak!

Today’s Reflection:

In the Gospel, Jesus told His disciples to be vigilant. There are three images of readiness offered. The first image is girding up the loins as practiced in ancient times. The second is the lamp. It shows one’s preparedness to move when night comes. The last image of preparedness is the short parable where the Master returns from a wedding banquet welcomed by his servants ready to serve him. During that time, wedding celebrations lasted for days, so it was common practice for servants to wait for the return of the Master. The Lord reminds us of this practice. Discipleship demands patiently waiting for the Lord. They have to work knowing the Lord would judge the fruit of their labor. From this, let us reflect on the following: Are we ready? If the Lord comes today, will we be able to present an account of our deeds? Will He be satisfied?   / Vulnerasti, 2023
