Today’s Gospel

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he entered a village, and a woman called Martha welcomed him to her house. She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet to listen to his words. Martha, meanwhile, was busy with all the serving, and finally she said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work? Tell her to help me!”

But the Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you worry and are troubled about many things, whereas only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Today’s Reflection:

Jesus demanded full attention from His disciples. He discouraged His disciples from any distraction from the mission. In today’s Gospel, we hear of Martha’s distractions. Martha was busy with her tasks. She had to prepare many things to provide comfortable accommodation for the Lord. Jesus reminded her of what matters, our relationship with the Lord. Yes, at times, our activities, religious or charitable they may be, distract us from what matters. Mary was listening to Jesus as a student should listen to the Master. We, too, as followers, must listen to the Lord. Let us not forget that before we can do the will of God, we must first listen to Him. We draw the strength for our ministry from our relationship with Him. Only through Jesus can we fulfill our mission.   /Vulnerasti, 2023.
