Today’s Gospel

On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus passed through Samaria and Galilee, and as he entered a village, ten lepers came to meet him. Keeping their distance, they called to him, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” Jesus said to them, “Go, and show yourselves to the priests.” Then, as they went on their way, they found they were cured. One of them, as soon as he saw that he was cleansed, turned back, praising God in a loud voice; and throwing himself on his face before Jesus, he gave him thanks. This man was a Samaritan.

Then Jesus asked him, “Were not all ten healed? Where are the other nine? Did none of them decide to return and give praise to God, but this foreigner?” And Jesus said to him, “Stand up and go your way; your faith has saved you.”

Today’s Reflection:

Why did the Lord Jesus look for the nine lepers who did not go back to Him to praise God? Does He badly need praise and thanksgiving for the good things He has done? Certainly not, for God is still complete even without any affirmation and compliments from any of His creatures. He doesn’t need our prayers but such opportunities He gave us are indeed His gift that we may align our will to His holy will and we may always walk in His path, for nothing is sweeter than being aware of our presence in the heart of God. Jesus looked for the nine other lepers who got healed because giving thanks to God is a foretaste of heaven, a place of eternal worship on the throne of the Creator. A worshipping heart is a grateful heart and a grateful heart is a happy soul! / Vulnerasti, 2023
