Today’s Gospel

At this time, Jesus went out into the hills to pray, spending the whole night in prayer with God. When day came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them whom he called apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James son of Alpheus and Simon called the Zealot; Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who would be the traitor.

Today’s Reflection:

The choice of the twelve Apostles symbolically attests that Jesus wanted to bring to perfection or fulfillment his Father’s saving plan for humanity – a plan that can be traced back right to the very beginning of time – that of saving us. Indeed, God wants all men to be saved (1Tim 2:4). Interestingly, the Twelve whom he named were no great personalities of their time. Judas, for instance, is known to have betrayed Jesus, while Simon was a member of a rebel group considered to be an enemy of the Romans. The task of evangelization, therefore, is not exclusively assigned to the rich and the famous. God inspires us to do simple things every day which, in some way, will bring to completion Jesus’ mission to transform the world into the Kingdom of God, where truth, peace, love and justice reign. /Vulnerasti, 2022
