Today’s Gospel

And Jesus added this comparison, “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. As soon as their buds sprout, you know that summer is already near. In the same way, as soon as you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. Truly, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all this has happened: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Today’s Reflection:

“Look at the fig tree and all the trees. As soon as their buds sprout, you know that summer is already near.” Jesus sometimes uses images from nature in order to bring forward the gospel message to his hearers just like the image of the fig tree (puno ng igos in Filipino) in the gospel today. Seasons change, and the people around us change too. But even if seasons and peoples change, we can always be sure that God does not change. We can always hold on to the words of Jesus in today’s gospel: “Truly, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all this has happened: heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” When life gets difficult and uneasy to bear, let us remember the reassuring words of Jesus in today’s gospel.
