Today’s Gospel

Then Jesus entered the temple area and began to drive out the merchants. And he said to them, “God says in the Scriptures, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of robbers!” Jesus was teaching every day in the temple. The chief priests and teachers of the law wanted to kill him, and the elders of the Jews as well, but they were unable to do anything, for all the people were listening to him and hanging on his words.

Today’s Reflection:

In the gospel today, when Jesus drove out the merchants and reprimanded them because they had turned the temple into a den of thieves; He was telling them the truth. They had forgotten that the temple was a house of prayer. When He stayed in the temple teaching and preaching; the Pharisees, the teachers of the law and elders wanted to kill Him. Jesus was telling them that they were not living out their calling as servants of God.

Jesus spoke the truth. He had to tell the people about the message of God. His teaching and preaching was an invitation for people to change, to be converted, and to follow the will of God. He wanted the Pharisees and the teachers of the law to see what was wrong in what they were doing. But they did not see it; they refused to be touched by the message of the Lord.

Let us not forget that we are all servants of God. Let us be touched by the gospel and live it out. /Vulnerasti, 2022
