Today’s Gospel

And Jesus said, “What comparison can I use for the people? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace, about whom their companions complain, ‘We piped you a tune and you wouldn’t dance; we sang funeral songs and you wouldn’t cry.’

Remember John: he didn’t eat bread or drink wine, and you said, ‘He has an evil spirit.’ Next, came the Son of Man, eating and drinking; and you say, ‘Look, a glutton for food and wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But the children of Wisdom always recognize her work.”

Today’s Reflection:

Could it really be possible that even Christ has a hard time understanding man in all his intricacies intertwined in his person? This is a question difficult to answer. Nevertheless, today’s Gospel reading gives good hindsight of how Christ sees the complexity of man’s personality. Every so often, we find ourselves questioning many things leading us to become dissatisfied. We sometimes find faults in others’ good works just to disprove them and elevate ourselves motivated by pride. When Christ came into the world, He did not want the salvation He is offering to be accepted with coercion. God never wants us to be forced into doing or accepting something. He values the freedom He has gifted us with. And so He desires us to see the goodness in His actions. May we not always find wrong in every good thing we see. May we see the goodness of God in every person we meet. /Vulnerasti, 2023.
