Today’s Gospel

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my heavenly Father.

“Therefore, anyone who hears these words of mine, and acts according to them, is like a wise man, who built his house on rock. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house. But it did not collapse, because it was built on rock. But anyone who hears these words of mine, and does not act accordingly, is like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain poured, the rivers flooded, and the wind blew and struck that house; it collapsed, and what a terrible collapse that was!”

Today’s Reflection:

As a faithful Jew and Rabbi, Jesus recalls the opening chapter of the book of Psalms to explicate the importance of following the will of God in one’s life. It says: “Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law, they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper” (Ps. 1: 1-4). True devotion to God necessitates one to meditate on his law on one hand, and to practice it on the other hand. These two, meditating on and practicing the law, are likened to our two feet that make our life so easy as we move forward to our destination. In this earthly pilgrimage, our destination is no less than God himself. A faithful Christian is the one who acts according to the will of God. /Vulnerasti, 2022
